Data Analytics Intern

Overview:

Broadmead is a dynamic life plan community, also known as a continuing care retirement community that fosters independence, growth, and collaborative relationships, and is deeply committed to diversifying its resident population. We serve more than 400 older adults in Cockeysville, Maryland, with approximately 300 employees. Broadmead offers high quality services such as exercise classes, dining spaces, transportation, onsite medical services, diverse programs, social opportunities, and more that focus on an individual’s overall wellness. We provide multiple levels of living on our campus including independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing.

Internship Description:
Broadmead is seeking a dynamic Data Analytics Intern eager to gain valuable experience in the senior living industry. The Intern will support Broadmead with data analytics around our technology in our memory care neighborhood. The intern will create a data analysis plan for key measures within our memory care center.

There are several AI and technology components to gather data from and help to organize. Broadmead has multiple smart tracking and engagement technologies in our memory care neighborhood including smart fall prevention lighting, Tovertafel engagement program, It’s Never 2 Late technology and Alexa devices to name a few.  The intern will support Broadmead with data collection and a comparison of data to identify trends and areas of not only quality improvement but also possible development of a dashboard for regular tracking out of the data. 

Broadmead would also like to maximize our utilization of the technology and would like to use data to support this. Data to be collected and compared could include but is not limited to:  tracking technologies compared to trends including sleep, as needed medication use, engagement levels and fall prevention. The intern would collect data through chart and technology dashboard review, observation of programs and more. The ideal candidate would have an interest in healthcare, data collection and research and/or social sciences.

Health Services Intern

Overview:
Nestled in the heart of Happy Valley, Foxdale Village is a Quaker Directed Continuing Care Retirement Community located close to the culture and entertainment of State College and Penn State University. Foxdale Village began in 1985 as the dream of some members of the State College Friends Meeting. Our community is modeled after other Quaker-directed communities in southeast Pennsylvania. After much planning and guidance from these communities, construction began in 1987 and was completed in 1990. 

Our beautifully landscaped campus includes 148 cottage homes and 57 apartments for residential living and healthcare available onsite in both Darlington House, our Personal Care center and in Anthony House, our Skilled Nursing Area.

Internship Description:
This internship would be best suited for an undergraduate student in Health Policy Administration. The intern will work with the Assistant Administrator, Director of Health Services, as well as other health services leadership to review materials for compliance and in need of updates; develop standard operating procedure tools; assist with making updates to materials; and several projects related to the use of the Point-Click-Care system. The intern will be involved in multiple aspects of implementing and utilizing electronic document management within our Electronic Medical Records. 

Additionally, the intern will have the opportunity to job shadow various roles across any department at Foxdale Village. This part of the internship will be shaped by the educational interests and unique skills of the intern.

Exercise Instructor Intern

Overview:

Internship Description:

This internship would be best suited for an undergraduate student in Kinesiology. The intern will work with the Wellness Director and Wellness Team Members as an Exercise Instructor Intern. This intern will shadow, assist, and lead programs for residents that promote health and wellness for residents using the wellness center, in personal care and in skilled care. This position will include weekdays and weekends.

Additionally, the intern may have the opportunity to shadow various roles across department at Foxdale Village. This part of the internship will be shaped by the educational interests and unique skills of the intern.

Wellness with Emphasis on Mental Health Internship

Overview:
Friends Home in Kennett is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality care in a homelike atmosphere for older men and women of modest means. We encourage independence and we respect the individuality of dignity of all in keeping with the values of the Religious Society of Friends.

We strive to provide the best person-centered care considering each resident’s physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual needs in a caring community.

Strategic Plan: Since its opening in 1898, Friends Home has occupied a small home built in 1843. Through the years, the home has expanded in size as well as amenities. Friends Home is in the center of the Kennett Borough and within walking distance to restaurants, art galleries, markets and the library. This ability to easily access the resources of the borough provides our residents with a strong sense of community. Programming to further enhance community involvement both for our seniors and the Friends Home service to the community is ongoing.

Internship Description:
This program will give interns not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills necessary for working with older people.

Overview:
Friends House Retirement Community is a faith-based non-profit retirement community that includes an affordable housing partnership on campus.  It is unique among retirement communities in Maryland in that it is also a registered village – a neighborhood with internal and external supports designed aging-in-community.

From the tradition of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Friends House holds the values of Friends known by the acronym SPICES: Simplicity, Peace and Non-violence, Integrity, Community, Equality, Stewardship, and Sustainability.

Friends have a practice of inclusion in decision making known as Sense of the Meeting.  It is a practice of deep listening and discernment that is now recognized more in secular settings as being beneficial to solving problems in a group setting.  At Friends House, we often hear the expression, “Nothing about us without us.”  In that spirit, residents of Friends House contribute in significant ways to the life of the community, via their own 501C-3 non-profit, the Friends House Seniors Association.

Internship Description:
The ideal candidate would be someone studying the field of Media, Administration, Journalism or Fundraising. This intern would be intimately involved in developing methods to “tell the story of Friends House." They would benefit from this internship by gaining experience in website, print and digital newsletter production, donor proposals, research, public relations, marketing and list management. Good writing and editing skills are a must.

The intern would be supervised by the Director of Development and interact with other members of the senior management team, and get hands-on use of the Donor Perfect electronic donor/prospect record program.

These areas include Art Studio, Wood Shop, Pottery Studio, Model Train Room and Textile Studio.

It is one of 11 not-for-profit affiliates of the Kendal System, a nationally recognized family of life plan communities and services for seniors guided by its Values & Practices designed to create conditions that foster independence, well-being, security and fulfillment in later years. Kendal at Oberlin has been an innovator in introducing new programs such as Kendal at Home, now serving older across Ohio and beyond. Kendal also provides home and community-based services in the larger community through a partnership with Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice. Through such partnerships, Kendal is committed to a system-wide effort: “Together, transforming the experience of aging.®”

Internship Description:
Kendal at Oberlin has continued to contribute to the educational advancement of students in the field of aging. Over 30+ years of service, Kendal at Oberlin staff and residents have offered their expertise in training students in the fields of Nursing Home and Assisted Living Administration, Nursing, Therapy Services, Creative Arts Therapy Services, Nutrition, Finance, Marketing, and Fitness. As a community, Kendal believes it is our responsibility to share our learning with those who are actively participating in educational advancement and health career aspirations.

Project Summary
Goal: To assist the Chief Health Services Officer and newly hired Director of Hospitality in creating policies and procedures for Stephens Care Center. The student intern would help collect, review, edit and organize policy and procedures in relationship to Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living. The student would also create an innovative way to train our staff on Federal requirements (F-Tags) and regulations, and implementing of new policies and procedures.

Kendal at Oberlin is seeking a student who wishes to work in long-term care. We are reviewing and updating policies and procedures in accordance with both Federal and State regulations along with CARF Standards.  The student will create digital and hard copy binders of information as well as train staff on the requirements.

Memory Care Support Intern

Goal: To assist the Director of Creative Arts Therapy/ Dementia Specialist with implementing program design for Jameson Neighborhood (Memory Care Supportive Living) and to offer residential living residents a memory enhancement course.

Kendal at Oberlin is looking for an energetic student who wishes to work in long term care, has a basic understanding of dementia/cognitive loss, and who wishes to gain knowledge in providing memory enhancement techniques to assist our residents living at their optimal level of care. Reading and reference materials will be offered in advance of arrival. This internship brings the opportunity to work closely with the interdisciplinary team that includes a life enrichment coordinator, Teepa Snow-trained care partners, certified dementia practitioner, music therapist, art therapist, social services staff, nursing, nutrition/dietetics, administration, and physicians.

Social Services in Long-Term Care Intern

To assist the Social Services Department in providing supportive services to our residents living in a continuing care retirement community. Our residents, who are receiving supportive services in independent living, need help navigating systems. Social Services continues to take on a broader role, providing emotional support to those residents needing reassurance.

This summer project would focus on identifying commonly requested emotional and cognitive supports by our residents to remain independent in our community.

Kendal at Oberlin is looking for an energetic student who wishes to work in long-term care, has a basic understanding of dementia/cognitive loss, and has skills with technology. This internship brings the opportunity to work closely with the interdisciplinary team that includes a music therapist, art therapist, nursing, nutrition/dietetics, administration, and physicians.
