Internship Program for Students
Career opportunities within the field of aging services reach far beyond healthcare. There are opportunities for students who study:
- hospitality
- health policy
- health services
- marketing
- business
- human resources
- culinary arts
and more!
As part of an initiative seeking to identify and develop the next generation of leaders, FSA partnered with Friends Foundation for the Aging to create a summer internship program for students who wish to learn about working in the field of aging services. Accepted students experience organizational life within an FSA member organization during the summer.
Interns must receive academic credit for their experience, and be supported by a faculty member of their educational institution in establishing academic goals for the project. They are required to write a synthesizing report at the conclusion of their internship.
Interns are provided:
- meals
- the possibility of a monthly stipend
- reimbursement for travel expenses incurred for initial trip to and return trip from the host site
- housing (in some cases)
All work is supervised by an employee of the organization, and at no time is the intern’s time utilized to fill in for a regular employee. Contact us for details related to requirements for academic institutions and host sites.
2024 marked the 13th summer for this program; we have placed nearly 60 interns in FSA member locations nationwide. Many of these students had not considered working in the senior living field prior to their internship, and at least 10% of them are working in the industry now.
Summer 2025 internship opportunities will be posted in early 2025.
