This position is part of the Friends Services Alliance (FSA) Internship program and will be held at Broadmead, Cockeysville, MD.

Broadmead is a dynamic life plan community, also known as a continuing care retirement community, that fosters independence, growth, and collaborative relationships, and is deeply committed to diversifying its resident population. We serve more than 400 older adults in Cockeysville, Maryland, with approximately 300 employees. Broadmead offers high quality services such as exercise classes, dining spaces, transportation, onsite medical services, diverse programs, social opportunities, and more that focus on an individual’s overall wellness. We provide multiple levels of living on our campus including independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing.

Internship Description

Position Summary:
Broadmead is seeking a dynamic Data Analytics Intern eager to gain valuable experience in the senior living industry. The Intern will support Broadmead with data analytics around our technology in our memory care neighborhood. The intern will create a data analysis plan for key measures within our memory care center.

There are several AI and technology components to gather data from and help to organize. Broadmead has multiple smart tracking and engagement technologies in our memory care neighborhood including smart fall prevention lighting, Tovertafel engagement program, It’s Never 2 Late technology and Alexa devices to name a few. The intern will support Broadmead with data collection and a comparison of data to identify trends and areas of not only quality improvement, but also possible development of a dashboard for regular tracking out of the data.  

Broadmead would also like to maximize our utilization of the technology and would like to use data to support this. Data to be collected and compared could include but is not limited to:  tracking technologies compared to trends including sleep, as needed medication use, engagement levels and fall prevention.  The intern would collect data through chart and technology dashboard review, observation of programs and more. The ideal candidate would have an interest in healthcare, data collection and research and/or social sciences.

Get experience in one of the fastest growing career sectors! The number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to nearly double from 52 million in 2018 to 95 million by 2060. Aging Services organizations have many positions including management, marketing, social work, and IT. Friends Services Alliance (FSA) has positions available at organizations located in PA, MD and OH. Over the past 12 years, we have placed more than 60 interns in several different FSA member locations. Many of these students had not considered working in the senior living field prior to their internship.

As part of an initiative seeking to identify and develop the next generation of leaders, FSA has partnered with Friends Foundation for the Aging to create an internship program for students at who wish to learn about working in the field of aging services. Accepted students experience organizational life within an FSA member organization for two months during the summer.  Each intern will have an onsite preceptor to ensure their success.  That host will have experience in the field which will give the opportunity for the student to learn directly from a mentor.  Interns have worked in several different departments, including Administration, Human Resources, Social Work and Dining Services.

Interns must receive academic credit for their experience and be supported by a faculty member of their educational institution in establishing academic goals for the project. Each intern will be supervised by an experienced onsite manager who will assist with learning goals.

Interns are provided:

  • Preceptor/Host Onsite
  • Possibility of a monthly stipend (2 months). Dates are flexible and arranged with the host site.
  • Reimbursement for travel expenses incurred for the initial trip to and the return trip from the host site.
