Welcome to FSA’s Summer Special Event Series, featuring a different Member Organization every few weeks. While our members have a shared set of values, each is distinctive in its setting, service delivery, admissions procedures, contracts, and financial arrangements. The programs of each organization grow and change over time in response to evolving needs. Each seeks to be responsive to its residents or clients and to the needs of its surrounding community.

Up first: Kendal at Oberlin

Kendal at Oberlin is a vibrant life-planning community in northeast Ohio. It offers a community where older adults can thrive and grow. Residents enjoy easy access to music, art, and lifelong learning.

Their resident committees plan and execute most day-to-day programs and activities on the campus. In June, they hosted a community-wide picnic, which included residents, staff, volunteers, and children from the Kendal Early Learning Center. There are also a variety of events and programs for Pride month.

In July, the annual Independence Day Parade at Kendal at Oberlin is the place to be. While there, you can witness the one and only Kendal at Oberlin Precision Lawn Chair Drill Team. This is primarily a resident initiative, but staff also participate. This group is a perennial hit at the annual Big Parade, held in Oberlin each May. They only perform for the Big Parade and on Independence Day, and they have great fun with it. Click here to see this year's team!

There are also some building updates that will happen this summer. The brand-new Friends Corner dining room in their Stephens Care Center (the first part of Master Plan updates, Phase 1) will open. The dining space is bright and airy and expected to be a community-wide gathering space.

They anticipate completing the balance of Phase 1 of the Stephens Care Center Master Plan. This plan will include a new central nurse’s station, a new activity space, and the incorporation of additional residential care facility rooms into the Jameson Neighborhood to meet the increasing need for memory support services. Jameson House is a memory support neighborhood dedicated to providing physical settings that are sensitive to the aging process.
