Marketing Intern

Barclay Friends is a Kendal affiliate, offering homelike accommodations and warm, compassionate care. Our services for older adults include Residential Living, Memory Care, Personal Care and Skilled Nursing Care. We employ a dedicated staff with many years of service who understand that focusing on residents’ individual needs enhances their quality of life. Residents work with our horticultural therapist to design floral arrangements and cultivate produce for the local food bank. Our recreational team helps residents learn of their “not before realized” creativity by utilizing arts and music.

Internship Description:
The Marketing internship position requires a strong interest in marketing, excellent communication skills, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work well in a team. This role provides an excellent opportunity for interns to gain practical experience in the dynamic field of marketing while contributing to the success of marketing campaigns and initiatives.  The internship involves assisting in marketing responsibilities such as:  content creation (blog posts, social media updates, stock photos, e-newsletter); social media profiles (scheduling posts, monitoring engagement); digital and print ads; coordinating marketing events (online and offline, Zoom/virtual, in person); and actively participating in team meetings.

Internship Description:
We are seeking a dynamic Administrative Intern eager to gain valuable experience in the senior living industry. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the intern will work closely with executives and directors to fulfill learning objectives. Opportunities for growth span across various departments including Healthcare, Human Resources, Finance, Facilities, Philanthropy, and Diversity and Inclusion. Business Office/Financial Audit Intern

Overview:
Nestled in the heart of Happy Valley, Foxdale Village is a Quaker Directed Continuing Care Retirement Community located close to the culture and entertainment of State College and Penn State University. Foxdale Village began in 1985 as the dream of some members of the State College Friends Meeting. Our community is modeled after other Quaker-directed communities in southeast Pennsylvania. After much planning and guidance from these communities, construction began in 1987 and was completed in 1990. 

Our beautifully landscaped campus includes 148 cottage homes and 57 apartments for residential living and healthcare available onsite in both Darlington House, our Personal Care center and in Anthony House, our Skilled Nursing Area.

Internship Description:
This ten-week internship would be best suited for an undergrad level student in Accounting. The intern will work with staff from various departments to conduct financial audits. The intern will assist staff in researching best practices in Accounts Payables, will also work on policy and procedure creation, and account reconciliations.

Additionally, the intern will have the opportunity to job shadow various roles across the business department. This part of the internship will be shaped by the interests and unique skills of the intern.

Point Click Care/Staff Onboarding Intern

Overview:

Internship Description:
This internship would be best suited for an undergraduate student in Health Policy Administration. The intern will work with the Director of Health Services, the Assistant Director of Health Services, the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor, the Personal Care Home Administrator and the Director of Nursing to assist each of these Foxdale sub-departments with a variety of short-term projects. The intern will do the following:

  • Review of recently hired employee roles in Point Click Care and document what they have access to in the system;
  • Participate in QAPI related project support as of interest and appropriate;
  • Auditing plans and materials within the Health Care sub-departments. Set a standard checklist of those items that would need updating if we had changes in practice or individuals in roles.

This will comprise about 75% of the student’s internship. The remaining internship availability will be observation and shadowing opportunities with the Director of Nursing, Social Services, Therapeutic Recreation, and members of the leadership team. The intern should be comfortable learning from various sources and team members with diverse styles.

Development and Marketing Intern

Overview:
Friends House Retirement Community is a faith-based non-profit retirement community that includes an affordable housing partnership on campus.  It is unique among retirement communities in Maryland in that it is also a registered village – a neighborhood with internal and external supports designed aging-in-community.

From the tradition of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Friends House holds the values of Friends known by the acronym SPICES: Simplicity, Peace and Non-violence, Integrity, Community, Equality, Stewardship, and Sustainability.

Friends have a practice of inclusion in decision making known as Sense of the Meeting.  It is a practice of deep listening and discernment that is now recognized more in secular settings as being beneficial to solving problems in a group setting.  At Friends House, we often hear the expression, “Nothing about us without us.”  In that spirit, residents of Friends House contribute in significant ways to the life of the community, via their own 501C-3 non-profit, the Friends House Seniors Association.

Internship Description:
The ideal candidate would be someone studying the field of Media, Administration, Journalism or Fundraising.  This intern would be intimately involved in developing methods to “Tell the story of Friends House” They would benefit from this internship by gaining experience in website, print and digital newsletter production, donors proposals, research, public relations, marketing and list management. Good writing and editing skills are a must.

The intern would be supervised by the Director of Development and interact with other members of the senior management team.  They would also be in direct contact with Donor Perfect.

Health Information Intern

Kendal at Oberlin has been an innovator in introducing new programs such as Kendal at Home, now serving older adults across Ohio and beyond. Kendal also provides home and community-based services in the larger community through a partnership with Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice. Through such partnerships, Kendal is committed to a system-wide effort: “Together, transforming the experience of aging.®”

Internship Description:
Kendal at Oberlin has continued to contribute to the educational advancement of students in the field of aging. Over 30+ years of service, Kendal at Oberlin staff and residents have offered their expertise in training students in the fields of Nursing Home and Assisted Living Administration, Nursing, Therapy Services, Creative Arts Therapy Services, Nutrition, Finance, Marketing, and Fitness. As a community, Kendal believes it is our responsibility to share our learning with those who are actively participating in educational advancement and health career aspirations.

Project Summary
Goal: To assist the Chief Health Services Officer and newly hired Director of Hospitality to create policies and procedures for Stephens Care Center dining program. The student intern would help collect, review, edit and organize policy and procedures for the dining services in relationship to Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living. The student would also create an innovate way to train our staff on Federal requirements (F-Tags) and regulations in dining services.

Kendal at Oberlin is seeking a student who wishes to work in long-term care. We are reviewing and updating policies and procedures in accordance with both Federal and State regulations along with CARF Standards. The student will create digital and hard copy binders of information as well as train staff on the requirements.

Intergenerational and Technology Intern

Kendal Early Learning Center (KELC) is a leader in person-centered intergenerational programming in Ohio for the children of Kendal at Oberlin staff members and families from the surrounding community.

KELC will unite generations with relationships that have lasting positive effects on the lives of the children and residents. This will be accomplished using an educational curriculum focusing on the needs and interests of each child and on the interests and talents of each resident according to Kendal’s person-centered philosophy. KELC will maintain an environment that is aligned to NAEYC’s quality benchmarks and adheres to our mission to develop fiscal viability through community and philanthropic resources.

It is our mission at KELC to provide the families of on-site employees and families from the surrounding community with a high-quality educational program founded on Kendal’s Quaker-based Values and Practices, which provides the following: a written, evidence-based comprehensive curriculum; diverse enrollment of all income levels from the local community; safe secure environment in an intergenerational setting; and trained and experienced teaching staff.

Our unique intergenerational program, combined with the creative curriculum, provides a balanced approach for young children to learn and grow. We provide programming for preschool children and we currently have openings available.

Project Summary
Goal: To assist the Creative Arts Therapy Department and Early Learning Center with implementing a program design for using technology to enhance intergenerational interactions between our pre-school learners and our Stephens Care Center adults. In addition to learning how the intergenerational program we offer benefits our community as a whole.

Kendal at Oberlin is looking for an energetic student who wishes to work in long term care, has a basic understanding of dementia/cognitive loss, and has skills with technology. This internship brings the opportunity to work closely with the interdisciplinary team that includes the Early Learning Center teachers, music therapist, art therapist, social services, nursing, nutrition/dietetics, administration, and physicians.

The intern’s eight weeks will be split between working closely with the Early Learning Center and the Creative Arts Therapy Department. The student will help implement a program around our newly acquired Tovertafel, and our LinkedSenior digital platform.

Kendal would like to utilize this new device for intergenerational opportunities as well as one-on-one engagement with some of our older adults.

In addition to developing and implementing a Tovertafel program, the student would be trained in how to use our current LinkedSenior digital platform to engage residents in small groups and one-on-one settings.
